Gachagua To Broker Truce Between Meru Leaders After Mwangaza Survived Impeachment
Following the recent failure to impeach Governor Kawira Mwangaza, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has declared intentions to consolidate the leadership of Meru County.
For the development of the Kenya Kwanza Administration, Gachagua emphasized the significance of collaboration among the Governor, Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), and Members of Parliament (MPs).
Sunday, while addressing the congregation of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Embu County, Gachagua emphasized his dedication to the promotion of peace and progress.
The individual recognized prior endeavors to reconcile disputes in Meru County and declared their desire to organize analogous dialogues involving the relevant parties to foster cohesion.
“There have been issues in Meru County that were presided over by the Senate. I was previously at the forefront of holding talks and we were in agreement that brought peace to the county for one year. They then had disagreements and I let them be to see how things would turn out,” Gachagua stated.

Gachagua emphasized the critical nature of preserving harmony among county administrators, drawing from his previous involvement in interventions in Kericho and Kiambu Counties.
“I sat them down and we are in agreement and there is peace,” he added.
In anticipation of the future, Gachagua exhorted the Embu County administration to prioritize development in their endeavors to circumvent the necessity for external intervention.
This represents a change in his position from October when he had opted to abstain from participating in the political disputes in Meru County.
Mwangaza evaded a second impeachment when, on November 9, 2023, a Senate plenary failed to sustain any of the seven charges levied against her by the MCAs, who had voted unanimously to remove her from office.
The governor arrived triumphantly in Meru on November 10, where she apologized to those whom she had wronged and urged the Meru community and its leaders to live in peace and unity.
