Kalonzo Declares: The Ultimate Challenger to Ruto’s Throne in 2027
Kalonzo Musyoka, the leader of the wiper movement, has declared that he will run for president in the general elections of 2027.
Kalonzo expressed his conviction that, with the assistance of the other co-principals of Azimio, he would rise to the position of sixth president.
He stated that ODM leader Raila Odinga, who had supported him three times in a row, had indicated that he would support his candidacy this time around as the Alliance’s flagbearer.
“Raila has to support me this time round. During the 2022 polls, you told me to rally alone. Leaders came and told me to support Raila’s bid close to a week to the ballot and I did exactly so and we are still together,” Kalonzo said.
On Saturday, at a fundraiser held at the Kyua Catholic church in Yatta, Machakos County, the former vice president delivered a speech.
He claimed that Raila’s endorsement rally for him this time around indicated that he would run for the presidency.
“Our brother (Raila) spoke his mind and we are still walking together and we aren’t going back,” Kalonzo said.
According to Kalonzo, the Wiper Democratic Alliance has initiated a nationwide membership recruitment campaign to bolster the party’s numerical strength before the upcoming elections.
He stated that this was one of the steps he was taking to strengthen the national support base for his presidential campaign.

Today, a new spirit has emerged from Kyua; you constitute the majority. Governors and Speakers abound in the Wiper Democratic Movement’s county administrations of Machakos, Makueni, and Kitui. “You must act swiftly so that, by the grace of God, you can begin registering Wiper members at the start of 2024 to ensure that everyone joins the party,” Kalonzo advised the Wiper legislators.
“The spirit of joining Wiper is the way I have seen here today. If you get to register members in Central Kenya, Rift Valley, Western, and Nyanza among other regions, we will make this a true movement for real change in this country. We are ready,” Kalonzo said.
Regarding the country’s difficult economic conditions, Kalonzo praised Catholic bishops for what he deemed “standing for the truth.”
“I want to thank the Catholic bishops. They stood for the truth. In fact, I’m now seeing the church being what it used to be during Ndingi Mwana Nzeki. When the situation got worse, he stood firm.
“I see that my brother Bishop Martin Kivuva and the Episcopal team issued a strong statement in Nakuru as a Catholic Church. If we don’t speak the truth, the country can get into problems,” Kalonzo said.
Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, her deputy Francis Mwangangi, Woman Representative Joyce Kamene, Members of Parliament Robert Basil (Yatta) and Stephen Mule from Matungulu, and MCAs from Machakos, Kitui, and Makueni counties accompanied Kalonzo.
