Dialogue Team Gears Up for Grand Finale Report

The National Dialogue Committee has concluded its 73-day marathon of discussions; the final report is now the primary focus.

The technical team has withdrawn to Machakos to finalize the report that President William Ruto is scheduled to receive.

The committee will be present at the venue the following week, following the secretariat.

The deadline for the report presentation by the committee, which is co-chaired by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and National Assembly Majority leader Kimani Ichungw’ah, is November 26.

The committee, nevertheless, specified in its timetable that the report would be completed by November 22.

Kalonzo was sanguine on the day the team concluded its deliberations at the Bomas of Kenya, where it had been convening, that they had addressed all points raised for discussion, as well as any other emerging concerns.

โ€œWe have concluded the deliberations after 73 days of intense and informative bi-partisan engagements,โ€ he said in a statement.

Additionally, he extended his gratitude to all the stakeholders who submitted memoranda and the experts who accepted the invitation to participate in the discussion of certain contentious matters.

The negotiations were nearly derailed by several contentious matters, including the expense of living, the audit of the 2022 presidential servers, the reconstitution of the IEBC, and allegiance to political parties.

โ€œWe have over the period tackled all the thematic areas identified at the onset of the talks and emerging issues that came up from stakeholders during the negotiation period,โ€ Kalonzo said.

โ€œI also thank you fellow Kenyans for your patience, trust, confidence, and participation at all stages of this process.โ€

From a variety of stakeholders, the technical team received 258 written memoranda and 60 oral submissions.

Important points of agreement between the two factions concern the reestablishment of the IEBC, the integration of the Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, and the entrenchment of the Office of the Leader of the Opposition.

The establishment and implementation of the two-thirds gender rule and the Constituency Development Fund are additional measures.

On Thursday, during his State of the Nation address to Parliament, President William Ruto commended the leaders of the opposition for their decision to participate in the dialogue and implored them to maintain their efforts to bring Kenyans together.

Ruto emphasized the significance of the ongoing bipartisan discussions, stating that their resolution will significantly help to advance the agenda for transformation, strengthen democracy, and solidify national unity.

He stated that the dialogue was being conducted with benevolence, brotherhood, and a dedication to the nation’s welfare and national interest.

โ€œThe national dialogue has enabled leaders from our various political divides to find a common ground on many of issues affecting the nation,โ€ he said.
