Civil Society Calls for Action on MP Mpuru Aburi and Meru Deputy Governor Isaac Mutuma
It has been requested that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) investigate the alleged profanities made by Mpuru Aburi, a member of parliament for Tigania East, and Isaac Mutuma, the deputy governor of Meru, about Governor Kawira Mwangaza.
The Coalition Against Sexual Violence (CSV) condemned the two leaders’ remarks regarding the governor of Meru in a letter dated November 10. The CSV also demanded that the Anti-Corruption Commission investigate the two leaders.
“Their actions deserve swift and decisive action. We demand that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission take on this matter as these leaders have clearly fallen short of the conduct for a public officer,’ read part of the statement.
“Furthermore, we demand that they be held accountable for their actions through appropriate recourse.”
Additionally, the lobbying organization demanded that the two individuals retract their statements in public and apologize to the governor.
As per CSV’s findings, the derogatory remarks concerning the governor’s marital status and gender were not connected to or consequentializable with the electoral office she was granted.

“These disgraceful remarks callously uttered to a cheering crowd, represent an appalling attack on the Governor’s person. The statements are a gross affront to not only the Governor but also to the dignity of women everywhere,” the statement further read.
CSV expressed its approval of the Senate plenary’s decision to uphold Kawira Mwangaza as the governor of Meru, contrary to the Members of the County Assembly’s (MCAs) initial demands for her impeachment.
“It is important that accusations leveled at leaders are substantiated and meet the threshold required objectively,” a statement by the CSV read.
The Senate plenary on Wednesday rejected a motion of impeachment against Mwangaza that had been presented by the Meru MCAs.
A vote by the majority of the legislators in opposition to all seven allegations brought against them prevented the governor from being impeached.
“The result of the division indicates that the Senate has not upheld any of the impeachment charges. The Senate has failed to remove from office by impeachment Governor Kawira Mwangaza and the Governor accordingly continues to hold office,” Senate Speaker Amason Kingi declared.
