Isiolo Governor Abdi Hassan Calls Helicopter to Save Pregnant Woman From Floods
Governor Abdi Hassan of Isiolo County was compelled to dispatch a helicopter on Friday to rescue a pregnant woman who was engulfed in floodwaters due to complications during childbirth.
As floodwaters surged, the medical team transporting the patient found themselves between a rock and a hard place when the vehicle they were in became immobile.
Health officials transporting the woman were compelled to seek immediate assistance due to her critical condition and the critical need for medical attention.
The incident transpired while the patient was being transported from Malkadara to Isiolo County Referral Hospital in the vehicle.
“We involved Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) vehicles who helped us move the patient from Malkadaka to Garbatula, on its way to our facility In Isiolo, but due to heavy rains, the vehicle got stuck and could not move,” an official narrated.
The team contacted the governor, who dispatched the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy helicopter to transport the patient without delay.
The patient was transferred from the helicopter as it approached the location and proceeded to the hospital.

“Through the efforts of our governor who reached out to the management of Lewa, they helped us in evacuating the patient to our facility,” an official remarked.
The patient was unable to deliver normally due to delivery complications, as reported by the medical staff; consequently, the hospital administration was compelled to transfer her to a referral hospital for additional care.
“We are happy to report that the patient arrived in stable condition,” the official noted.
The occurrence transpires one day after a helicopter retrieval of a truck driver and his occupants from the vehicle, which was submerged in raging floodwaters caused by a substantial downpour.
The operator in Samburu County encountered formidable water currents while attempting to traverse but was ultimately unable to succeed.
Several rounds were fired by the helicopter during the rescue mission to transport the victims to a secure location before the lorry became completely submerged in water.
