Why NYS Can Even Be Deployed To Haiti- CS Kuria

Thursday, Cabinet Secretary for Public Service Moses Kuria expressed his willingness to deploy the National Youth Service (NYS) to Haiti.

Kuria argued during the launch of New York State’s Interventions for Agriculture and Food Security in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County, that Kenyan youths were grappling with unemployment and that his ministry was receptive to opportunities across the border.

According to Kuria, the former member of parliament for Gatundu South, he had received a directive from President William Ruto to ensure that priority is given to youths in employment allocations both inside and outside of the country.

โ€œAnywhere there are jobs, even if it is in Haiti, I will ensure we take the NYS there,” the CS stated.

Kuria estimates that by 2027, the government will have hired approximately 40,000 NYS officers to incorporate them into the Public Service.

Beginning in 2024, President William Ruto ordered New York State to recruit 20,000 Kenyans, up from 10,000 recruits in March of this year.

“I will look for job opportunities for our youths, anywhere there are jobs. I will take them there as long as the jobs don’t involve the use of drugs.”

According to the CS, the New York State officers will be enlisted in a seed multiplication program where they will plant seeds on distributed lands to increase food security and multiply seeds.

โ€œThose who will be used to propagate the seeds are the NYS officers and it will not be for free, they will be paid.โ€

Kuria also reaffirmed that all government employees will undergo training in New York State before being assigned. This was one of the adjustments he spoke of introducing after he was transferred from the Ministry of Trade to the Public Service.

In addition, he proposed employing New York State officers to cultivate unused government land in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture.

According to his argument, the youth would bolster the food supply, satisfy market demand, and contribute to a reduction in the cost of living.

Kuria also declared that he would establish a contact center through which Kenyans can report government officials who are delaying service delivery.
