Nakuru Outrage: 2 Churches Demolished Overnight, Residents Demand Answers

The residents of Nakuru have expressed concern following the destruction of two churches at 3 a.m. on Monday, October 30.

Monday, one of the residents, whose family operates one of the churches, told journalists that a land dispute dating back to 1985 prompted the demolition.

According to her account, the demolitions began after unknown individuals invaded the sanctuary and began demolishing the structures.

โ€œThe invaders came at around three in the morning, took out all the items, and attacked our dad who is currently in the hospital,โ€ one of the victims told journalists.

“We are still in the dark. The invaders never bothered to listen to what our father had to tell them,” the victim narrated.

The victim added that the dispute began in 1985 when the sister of her grandmother sold the land to another party.

โ€œWe have the right to claim this land. We own it legally because we inherited it from our grandmother who inherited it from her mother,โ€ the victim narrated.

While recounting the events, the victim pleaded for the intervention of the national government to ensure that justice is served.

According to the respective religious leaders, the destruction of the wall has compromised their safety.

โ€œWe started leasing this land back in 2019, and then we built the church which cost us Ksh1.2 million. Now they have taken the seats,โ€ lamented one of the residents.

In the meantime, authorities have stated that investigations have been conducted and are ongoing to determine the cause of the incident.

Officers stated that they would leave no stone untouched in their efforts to recover the stolen items.
