Dark forces want me impeached, says Governor Arati

Kisii Governor Simba Arati on Monday said he has been facing a cabal that consistently fights him for his stand against graft.

He alleged that already the plot for his impeachment was thickening.

“There are dark and ominous clouds I have seen ahead of me, pray for me. I have heard that some ward reps have been promised Sh500,000 each to start impeachment proceedings against me, kindly pray for me we must win,” he said.

“These are pro-graft forces fighting me. They are mighty, personally, I don’t have much to fight them, they have everything. I am only armed with a strong conviction that I will win.”

The Governor’s offices were early cordoned by a detachment of armed GSU officers sparking fear among staff when the officers numbering about 30 descended on the premises located at Gusii Stadium.

It was not clear what their mission was.

The initial information from a County staffer, however, alleged that they had come to evict Arati from the stadium offices.

The Governor claimed that the same officers had promised a similar night raid in his Motonto residence

” Yes, they told me that they wanted to come to my house at night but I objected. If they want to come let them do so during day time when am awake, “he said.

Arati said he does not stock any illegal arms in his residences to warrant night raids.

“Let them come during the daytime to check whatever they want but not come to plant false evidence in my house, ” the county boss told journalists.

He said he was not running away from the authorities to warrant the huge deployment of GSU officers.

“This is my territory, I work here and that is why I had to come to my office only to get these officers all over here. We have had a conversation and they have gone,” he said.

He rebuked the government for misusing the officers when the country was facing hostile conflicts in other areas.

“This is sheer nonsense, a gross misuse of elite squads to fight non-existent wars,” he said.

“It is all about satisfying the selfish ego of some people which is unfortunate.”
