Police Block Explosive Press Conference on British Rights Abuses Hours Before King Charles III Visit
On Monday, the police prevented a press conference at which allegations of human rights and environmental abuses by British personnel in the country were to be presented.
The development occurred hours before the advent of King Charles III.
According to Reuters, before the meeting’s organizers could conduct the press conference, police arrived on the scene in a lorry and two smaller trucks and blocked access points to the venue.
According to the allegation, the police then contacted the hotel’s management to warn them against hosting the event.
Kenyans have been accusing British personnel training in Laikipia of human rights violations for years.
In August, a parliamentary committee began investigating alleged human rights violations and ethical violations committed by a British army training unit.

This was in response to numerous Kenyan complaints alleging harassment by the soldiers and environmental destruction by the foreign forces.
Agnes Wanjiru, who was allegedly murdered by a British soldier and her corpse dumped in a septic tank, is the most recent high-profile example of this phenomenon.
Following the incident, British authorities began investigating the case, although the soldier’s identity was kept secret. He was simply known as Soldier X.
In October 2021, General Mark Carleton-Smith, the then-commander of the British army, stated that the British government would assist Kenyan authorities in getting to the root of the situation.
Smith stated at the time that establishing facts swiftly was the top priority.
