President Ruto’s State of the Nation Address Date Revealed

President William Ruto is scheduled to deliver a State of the Nation address on November 9.

Ruto will deliver the address from Parliament.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula Moses Wetangula made the announcement Thursday while notifying members of a joint sitting.

“I wish to inform the House that I have received a message from H.E the President conveying that he intends to deliver the 2023 State of the Nation address to Parliament,” he said.

The address is by Article 132 (1) of the Constitution.

“I wish to notify all members that a joint sitting of parliament will take place in the main chamber at 2:30 pm,” he stated.

The Constitution on the functions of the president states that he shall address the opening of each newly elected Parliament and also address a special sitting of Parliament once every year.

It states that he may address the Parliament at any other time.

It will be Ruto’s second address.

He addressed his first joint sitting on September 29, 2022, where he spelled out his legislative agenda to lawmakers which also doubled up as the official opening of the 13th Parliament.

It was the second time since the August 9 general election, when the two Houses held a joint sitting.

During his address, Ruto informed the Members of Parliament that his administration would openly pursue a transformational agenda which would include overhauling the country’s social security infrastructure to make it more inclusive.

The announcement comes a day after political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi challenged Ruto to explain to Kenyans about his achievements so far.

“Dear Ruto: Where is the State of the Nation Address to Parliament? Article 132 of the constitution demands that the President reports on what he has done with Sh3 trillion annually. After one year, Sir, you have done a lot. But you have not told us what. Speak to us,” Ngunyi said on X.
