Daring Bandits Strike Again In Baringo, Engage GSU In Gunfire Exchange

Over 20 armed bandits have struck again in Baringo County where they laid ambush at herders looking after their livestock at Nenteiyo hills in Kiserian area on Thursday afternoon.

According to the area chief George Gateiya the bandits shot at herders and attempted to steal their livestock at the grazing field before engaging in a fierce gunfire exchange with GSU officers from Kiserian who responded to the distress calls.

Chief Gateiya said the fire exchange lasted for over half an hour before the assailants were overpowered and escaped towards Chepkalacha area in Tiaty Sub-county.

Learning at Kiserian Primary School was halted with pupils and teachers scampering for safety as others locked themselves inside classrooms.

Tension is reported high in the area barely a day after another daring banditry attack was laid by the same bandits at Kapindasum area for close to six hours before they were repulsed.

Area leaders who toured the Kapindasum area led by Baringo South MP Charles Kamuren, County Woman Rep Florence Jematia and Senator William Cheptumo condemned the incident calling for the security apparatus to investigate two private choppers; a blue and white one, suspected to be supplying bandits with bullets.

The incident is the latest in a series of bandit attacks in the area, classified as disturbed and dangerous, and which saw the deployment of a multi-agency security team to combat banditry.

Meanwhile, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops have taken a lead role in patrolling the area following Tuesday’s ambush of a General Service Unit (GSU) camp by armed bandits who laid a siege for more than 6 hours.
