Eldoret Heist Hub: DCI Cracks Down on Stolen Electronics Den

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives raided several Eldoret shops on Tuesday, October 24. The operation resulted in the recovery of several electronic products.

The detectives raided the Petresha Building in Eldoret Township and recovered, among other items, 56 mobile phones, 45 televisions, and 41 laptops.

Several electronic repair businesses believed to sell stolen items were searched by the DCI, resulting in the recovery of the items.

DCI’s statement read, “Electronic repair shops suspected of confiscating stolen items were searched, and various electronics without required ownership documentation were recovered.”

156 mobile phones, 41 laptops, 45 televisions, 25 gas cylinders, 8 refrigerators, 5 microwaves, and 3 gas ovens were among the items seized by detectives from a second, unnamed store.

Moreover, they recovered three water dispensers, five woofers, and one Canon camera.

The suspects were transported to the Eldoret police station for further investigation, while the numerous items were held in custody until their owners could be identified.

Following a succession of bar and pub break-ins, DCI detectives conducted another sting operation in Meru County on Monday, which was followed by the operation on Wednesday.

During the operation, the detectives recovered various items believed to have been stolen from bars in Meru, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Laikipia, and Kirinyaga by a well-organized syndicate.

Detectives recovered alcoholic beverages, keg pumps, keg cylinders, and other items during one of the investigations conducted at a lounge owned by a suspect believed to be the mastermind behind the break-ins.

Three vehicles belonging to three suspects were intercepted in the Makutano area, and a panga and metal rods were discovered inside a Toyota Probox following a search.

In addition, two metal rods, two sets of number plates, and empty sacks were recovered from another Toyota Probox by the detectives.

A search of the residence of a second suspect yielded a television, sundry beverages, a keg pump, an Infinix phone, and a Lumix camera lens.
