Gunmen Attack GSU Camp in Baringo

In Kapindasum, Baringo County, rustlers have attacked a General Service Unit (GSU) camp.

The Baringo police and local administration officers, including Arabal location chief William Koech, verified that the incident began at 10 a.m. on Tuesday and lasted for more than two hours.

According to preliminary reports, the cattle rustlers also encircled the nearby Kapindasum Primary School.

However, it was unclear whether any hostages had been seized.

Teachers and students at the school are presently confined to their classrooms pending the police’s intervention. According to reports, GSU officers were also trapped after bandits sealed escape routes.

As the cattle rustlers have not yet issued any demands, it is also unknown why they carried out the attack.

However, the assault may be interpreted as retaliation for the ongoing Kenya Defence Forces and Police operation to disperse armed militia from the region.

Additionally, bandits may have targeted the camp to pilfer firearms and ammunition.

“At around 10 am, bandits attacked the GSU camp in Kapindasum. There are reports that the incident may have also involved a school. When I talked to the teacher, I was told they were afraid.

“They are reported to have surrounded the school and the gunshots can be heard,” an NTV reporter who spoke with a police boss in the region announced.

The incident occurred during an ongoing security operation in the North Rift that is targeting outlaws who have contributed to the region’s insecurity over the years.

The KDF and police launched their operation in February of this year. Nevertheless, sporadic assaults have been observed throughout the operation.
