The Kenya National Examinations Council has warned center administrators against releasing KCSE practical exam papers.

In a notice issued on Monday, the council instructed all exam monitors not to share confidential instructions in advance with unauthorized parties, including candidates, until exam time.

An invigilator distributes papers during the start of KCSE exam at Starehe Boys’ Centre, Nairobi, on Monday, March 14, 2023.

“We wish to strongly caution all KCSE Centre Managers against sharing advanced confidential instructions for the preparation of science practical examination papers with unauthorized persons,” read the notice in part.

“Please adhere to the KNEC rules and regulations strictly. Any non-compliance will attract the sanctions spelled out in the KNEC Act.”

According to the Act, center administrators found guilty face a maximum of twelve months in prison or a maximum fine of Ksh500,000, or both.

Individuals who gain access to examination materials and knowingly disclose the contents orally or in writing to any unauthorized party, whether a candidate or not, as well as those who willfully and maliciously damage examination materials, are subject to punishment.

Individuals who are not registered to take a particular council examination with the intent to impersonate, present, or attempt to present themselves as an enrolled candidate, or who possess or present a fraudulent certificate or diploma, are also subject to incarceration.

Today, candidates across the nation began their national examinations with physics practicals. There were 903,260 candidates scheduled to take the exam.

The science practical examinations will likely continue until Friday.

According to data from the Ministry of Education, just under a million students will take the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), while 1,4 million will take the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).

In addition to the newly-introduced Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), a total of 3,5 million students are anticipated to sit for the two exams.

KCSE will continue through November 24.
