MP Sam Atandi Expelled for Corruption Allegations Against DP Gachagua
Wednesday, Alego Usonga member of parliament Sam Atandi was expelled for doubting the source of Vice President Rigathi Gachagua’s wealth.
Atandi questioned the source of the money Gachagua carries in sacks and distributes in churches and other political events while speaking in Parliament.
During the proceedings, Atandi, an ally of the Azimio coalition, criticized the Kenya Kwanza government for the country’s high cost of living.
“Because this administration has permitted corruption at every level, you can see an entire Vice President carrying sacks of cash into churches to make donations. You are corrupt and you want the country to flourish; this cannot work. Therefore, we must connect these elements so that they function as a unit,” he stated.
This led to a back-and-forth with the acting speaker, Kitui South MP Rachael Nyamai, who asked the lawmaker to either provide evidence or retract his statements.

“The language you are using is unparliamentary and based on Standing Order 91, you mentioned the Deputy President in a bad light and you talked about carrying money in bags,” Nyamai added.
“I’d like to invoke the Standing Order; responsibility for statement of fact, and I’d like you to either substantiate or retract your statement, or you’ll be ejected from the meeting. Are you prepared to retract and apologize?”
“I am discussing corruption, and I cannot identify anything that I will retract because it is so obvious. Atandi responded that government officials exhibited corruption.
“I would like to add that DP carries millions in a satchel to accept donations. We are aware that the law prohibits withdrawing more than Ksh1 million from an account. Where does he obtain the funds?”
Nyamai ordered the lawmaker to exit the chambers after the remarks.
“As the speaker, I cautioned you, but I will invoke Standing Order 107 1 (F) if a member commits an act of disorderly conduct by providing unsubstantiated information. I command you to leave the House,” she commanded.
