Mungatana Defends Committee After Visit To Pastor Ezekiel’s Church Raises Eyebrows

The Ad-hoc Committee investigating the Shakahola massacre has been criticized for visiting the New Life Church in Kilifi, which is led by Pastor Ezekiel Odero.

The committee, headed by Danson Mungatana, gave Pastor Odero a clean bill of health after visiting his church over the weekend.

This is in response to claims that Pastor Odero’s church paid for the entire vacation.

Even more perplexing were allegations that Senators had traveled to Mombasa without a parliamentary secretariat, in violation of the house’s standing orders.

The visit has divided the committee, with senators who did not travel questioning the necessity of the trip.

Danstan Mungatana, senator from Tana River and committee head, defended the committee, stating that all they did was seek the truth.

“We were told that there were graves at the scene, we went and checked, there was none, we were told that there was a mortuary, we checked there was none, that is all we went to do,” Mungatana said.

We are not responsible for issuing a pristine bill of health, nor do we have such a mandate as a committee; all we seek is the truth.” He continued.

Mungatana, on the other hand, refused to reveal who financed the committee’s voyage to Kilifi County.

Paul Mackenzie, a controversial pastor, did not attend today’s meeting of the committee whose report is scheduled to be presented on Thursday.

In a letter, Mackenzie’s attorney requested additional time to appear before the committee.

“We thought that Mackenzie would jump at the chance to come and tell his side of the story with the immunity of the house, but has failed to turn, we will write our report with the evidence we have, but he can’t claim that we didn’t give him a chance,” Mungatana said.
