The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Collins Oyuu was on Monday involved in an accident in Kisumu while heading to the airport.

Speaking to PoliticalPulseChat the Secretary General revealed that he sustained minor injuries during the accident. At the time, he was in the company of his driver.

The unionist added that the accident was caused by a motorcycle, which prompted his driver to veer off the road to avoid hitting the rider.

“The boda boda rider is in stable condition. I have just visited him at the hospital,” he stated.

No casualties were reported in the morning incident.

Oyuu further revealed that he was heading to a local hospital for a check-up.

Photos circulating online showed the vehicle rolled over with several parts damaged in the process due to the sheer impact of the accident.

Locals rushed to the scene to assist the victims as police officers arrived to assess the damage and maintain order.

Meanwhile, Nyanza Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer RTEO Allan Mwangi confirmed the incident adding that further investigations were ongoing.

According to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), the majority of accidents in the country are caused by motorbikes.

To curb the accidents, the authority emphasizes that all boda operators should have the required licensing and adhere to the regulations in the Traffic Act.

In 2022, NTSA ranked boda boda transport as the most dangerous mode of transit with at least 1,209 fatalities recorded.

On Saturday three people lost their lives in an accident along the Southern Bypass. A truck lost control and rammed into a personal car.
