Toyota Prado Intercepted Ferrying 379 Kilos Of Bhang Worth Ksh.11M

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) intercepted a Toyota Prado transporting narcotics worth Ksh11 million in Kisii County on Sunday.

In a statement, the agency disclosed that the driver was transporting drugs to Kilgoris, Kisii County when he was requested to pull over by officers who were on patrol at the time.

“During the recovery, the officers who were on patrol sighted a white Toyota Prado that was loaded with a suspicious consignment,” read part of the statement.

To avoid detention, the driver disobeyed orders and sped away; upon reaching the Magena area, he made a quick U-turn and returned to Kanyenye.

“When he realized that he was being trailed by our men, he abandoned the vehicle within the Metembe area and escaped on foot,” DCI revealed.

Officers seized the vehicle and recovered approximately 379 kilograms of bhang valued at Ksh11 million.

“Six sacks and fifteen bales of leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa all weighing 379Kgs were recovered,” DCI reported.

The vehicle was transported to the Kenyenye Police Station, and the narcotics were seized for further investigation.

This is even though officers from various agencies are continuing to crack down on narcotics trafficking.

A woman was detained in Mombasa on Sunday for attempting to smuggle narcotics worth Ksh3.5 million.

The DCI arrested the middle-aged woman after receiving a report from the public that led to the arrest.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the number of drug trafficking cases reported along the coast of Kenya has increased over the past few years.
