Sarah Wilkinson, a 42-year-old woman who had saved for two decades to fulfill her wedding dream, took matters into her own hands after failing to find the right life partner.

According to the BBC, she planned her own wedding ceremony at Harvest House in Felixstowe, Suffolk, officiated by a friend who is a celebrant.

While the ceremony was not legally binding, it did serve as Wilkinson’s special wedding day. As she put it, she enjoyed being the center of attention for the day.

During the September 30 ceremony, the bride was joined by 40 of her closest family and friends. Later in the evening, an additional 40 people gathered across the street at the tennis club.

She allegedly spent over ยฃ10,000 (Ksh.1.8M) on the ceremony, which she accumulated and saved over a 20-year period. Wilkinson stated that she saved every month and any money she received in the form of windfalls.

Wilkinson had been saving for her wedding, but after a protracted search and being unable to find the partner of her dreams, she took matters into her own hands and used the money that had been set aside for her wedding.

“Why should I be denied the same pleasure as everyone just because I could not find someone suitable?” she posed.

Wilkinson revealed that she wrote 14 promises to herself, the first of which was to never relinquish control of the TV remote. When she turned forty during the lockdown and bought the diamond engagement ring she had always wanted, that is when the idea for the wedding came to her.

The bride’s mother accompanied her down the aisle, and the event featured a multi-tiered cake with a figurine of a bride kissing a frog. The bride wore a traditional white sequin gown.
