Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai Ditches Raila’s ODM Joins Ruto’s UDA

Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai of Turkana announced on Wednesday that he was leaving the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to support President William Ruto.

The ODM-elected governor stated that he would collaborate with and campaign for the president.

The governor stated during the Turkana Cultural and Tourism Festival in Lodwar Town that he was being threatened by unidentified individuals due to his close relationship with Ruto.

โ€œI am voted by Turkana County people. Those who are making threats that the Turkana Governor is working with the President, who told them that is a crime?โ€ he remarked.ย

In addition to supporting the President’s development agenda, he stated that he would also campaign for him in 2027.

โ€œI will work with you now and in the future. I will bring you Turkana votes. There’s no bargain about that,โ€ Lomorukai vowed.

The first-term governor stated that he desired Ruto to receive at least 80 percent of the vote in each of Turkana’s six sub-counties.

Lomorukai stated that he chose to collaborate with the President because of his service delivery.

Lomorukai’s defection is a major setback for the ODM Party and its leader, Raila Odinga, as he was one of the few elected officials representing the party in Rift Valley County.

It is also a setback to Raila Odinga, as Turkana has traditionally been his bastion.

The governor disclosed that he intends to run for president of Kenya after Ruto’s term expires.

Ruto should serve for 14 years, according to Lomorukai, who seems to advocate the extension of the presidential term to seven years.ย
