Manyora: Why Ruto’s Nyanza Trip Should Worry Gachagua And Kalonzo
Political analyst Herman Manyora says President William Ruto’s Nyanza trip could be suggestive of a political truce between him and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Manyora during an interview on Spice FM on Tuesday suggested that a secret ‘handshake’ between Ruto and the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party leader could be in the offing.
According to Manyora, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has been known to publicly dismiss Odinga, and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, a close ally of the opposition leader, should be worried about their allegiance to the two leaders.
“Rigathi Gachagua and Kalonzo Musyoka should be very afraid, they are on the outside. There is a deal between Raila and Ruto. Looking at the Nyanza tour, what plays out confirms some of some things people have been feeling, that Raila and Ruto have a deal,” he remarked.
Odinga commands a large following in the lakeside region.
Manyora’s comments come on the heels of Ruto’s statement during his four-day development tour of the Luo-Nyanza region, in which he asserted that Raila owes him a political debt due to his role in Raila’s appointment as Prime Minister.
“That kind of thing that played out could not easily have played out if Raila had not given his note. Something has taken place and I have no doubt that the casualties will be Kalonzo Musyoka and Rigathi Gachagua,” Manyora remarked.

“The problem is that Raila owes his team so much, that if it came openly immediately that he was dealing with Ruto, he may not be able to carry that sense of betrayal. On the other hand, Ruto has a problem; Rigathi Gachagua does not mince his words and will cause a lot of problems for Ruto if that deal between the two becomes public.”
The analyst also noted the Kenya Kwanza administration’s confidence in Ruto’s prospects for re-election in the 2027 general election.
“The bottom line is a clear route for Ruto in 2027. I think the strategy is to contain the Mountain first. Once that support is secured, and confidence in cooperation from Nyanza and Western regions is gained, Ruto may become more open about his plans,” he explained.
Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday, October 8, announced his mission to rally support in the influential Mount Kenya region, a region that played a pivotal role in President William Ruto’s rise to power.
Additionally, the government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, appearing on Citizen TV’s Monday Report show, refuted recent reports suggesting a rift between Ruto and his deputy, Gachagua.
The reports emerged following a disagreement between the two leaders over the prioritization of regions that strongly supported the Kenya Kwanza regime in the last general election.
