Police Officers Arrested Smuggling 13 Foreigners to Kenya
Two police officers were apprehended on Sunday evening in the Turkana South Sub-County for smuggling thirteen foreigners into the country.
According to a police statement, an intelligence report indicating that a police vehicle was being used to transport migrants prompted the formation of a security dragnet comprised of general police officers and officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
As the two police officers traveled from Lokori to Lokichar, they were ambushed.
“A team comprised of regular police from Lokichar Police Station and DCI Turkana South laid ambush and later intercepted the suspect vehicle near the Town Chini area in Lokichar,” according to a portion of the police statement.
According to the police statement, the two officers were driving a Border Police Unit (BPU)-assigned Toyota Landcruiser in Todonyang.
“Thirteen aliens of various nationalities were discovered seated inside,” the Police revealed following the multi-agency coordinated ambush.

Four of the foreigners were Eritreans, one was a 22-year-old Sudanese, and the remaining foreigners were of Ethiopian descent.
They were apprehended alongside the two police officers and detained at the Lokichar Police Station pending court appearance.
The driver of the police land cruiser also surrendered the AK-47 rifle and three loaded magazines issued to him by the department.
The final destination of the 13 foreigners who were being smuggled into the country was not immediately apparent.
The arrest occurred less than two weeks after South Africa issued a warning about the rising number of individuals entering the country illegally.
South African authorities uncovered a human trafficking organization targeting Kenyans, Ethiopians, and Zambian citizens ABC.
Human trafficking is punishable by between five and life in prison upon conviction.
