‘Shareholders Remark Is Biblical’: Gachagua Tells Critics He Won’t Apologise
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has responded to his detractors who have called him out for comments he made in February that the Kenya Kwanza administration will give priority to shareholders.’
Speaking on Sunday in Nandi County, where he presided over a fundraiser at the Kapsabet ACK church, the DP made it plain that he would not retract his controversial remarks.
“The matter of saying those who voted (for this government) be looked after is Biblical. What I am asking is within the Bible,” he told faithful.
He cited Galatians 6:10, which states, “Therefore, as we have the opportunity, let us do kindness to all, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. 10 Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do kindness to everyone, but especially to those within the Christian community.
The vice president insisted that he has a responsibility to safeguard the interests of those who voted for the Kenya Kwanza administration and that he will continue to do so for the foreseeable future, pointing an accusatory finger at the media and denying rumors of a rift between him and his boss.
“It is in the Bible; not my words. I want to tell these people, don’t waste your time, there will be no division in this government. President William Ruto and I talk the same language. We consult, agree, and move on,” Gachagua said.

Gachagua explained his Mt Kenya unity campaign as an effort to guarantee President Ruto a decisive victory in the upcoming general election, as the president seeks to include other regions in their 2027 political strategy.
Recent criticism has been leveled at Gachagua for his position that those who voted for the president should be given priority in government service.
Even within the Kenya Kwanza alliance, Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria and National Assembly Majority Whip Silvanus Osoro argued that the shareholder narrative should be abandoned.
“For me all parts of Kenya are useful, there is no part that is useless because you are contributing with your fish, cotton, and avocados, are you not shareholders? Everybody in this country is a shareholder,” Kuria said during a ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of a County Aggregation and Industrial Park in Siaya.
Osoro remarked, “Stop this shareholder dispute. Every Kenyan is a member of the government, and we all wish to be involved in development issues. “The honeymoon is over, and so are the festivities.”
