JAMES Martin has revealed why you should never store eggs in the refrigerator, perplexing This Morning viewer.
The TV chef, 50, spoke with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield about his thoughts on the long-running debate.
He advised viewers that eggs should “never be stored in the fridge” and should instead be kept in the cupboard.
Because “all eggs are porous,” James explained, they will “absorb the flavors” of whatever else is in the fridge.

Using an example, he continued: “So, if you have a truffle, which we use in the restaurant, you put it in a bowl with rice, top it with eggs, cover it with cling film, and place it in the fridge overnight.
“There is no truffle in the eggs when you break them in the morning for customers’ breakfast, truffle, and scrambled eggs. The flavors have been infused into the egg itself “.
Viewers were split, with one declaring: “I adore James Martin, but please disregard the warning about not storing eggs in the refrigerator.
“If they’ve been washed they need storing in the fridge or you could risk getting salmonella”.
His advice differs from that of the British Egg Information Service, which advises shoppers to store eggs in the refrigerator.
They claim this is because they should be kept at the same temperature and should not fluctuate too much.

Temperature fluctuations can lead to the development of salmonella, rendering the eggs unfit for consumption.
This is also why, despite the fridge door’s handy egg holders, eggs should be stored in the main part of the fridge rather than the door.
Chef Craig Mather, on the other hand, agrees with James and says you don’t need to refrigerate eggs for the same reason.
“Eggshells are porous and will absorb flavors of other foods in the fridge, such as cheese (which shouldn’t be in the fridge either) or onions,” he told Yahoo.
