Clashes Escalate Ahead Of Ruto Kisumu Tour, Anyang Nyongo Issues Statement
Wednesday, Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o broke his silence on Tuesday night’s ethnic clashes at Sondu along the Kisumu-Kericho border, alleging that the confrontation was staged by gangs before President William Ruto visited the Luo Nyanza region.
In a statement, the Governor of Kisumu clarified that gangs armed with bows and arrows from Kericho crossed the border and attacked residents in and around the Sondu market, stealing livestock and murdering three people.
The Governor stated in his statement that it was regrettable that ethnic clashes broke out in Sondu along the Kisumu-Kericho border the night before the President visited the region.
The governor also demanded that the government investigate the situation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We condemn this barbaric behavior and call on the national government to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators and bring justice to the affected families,” the statement reads.
The governor’s statement was made after three people were murdered and several others were injured in border clashes that erupted at a location that has struggled for years with violent clashes.

Assistant County Commissioner of Nyakach Darwin Orina confirmed to the press that the injured had been transported to Nyabondo Hospital for specialized medical care.
The police chief also disclosed that investigations have been undertaken to get to the bottom of the matter.
During the conflict, a house was burned as tensions in the awayelte grew.
Along the Kisumu-Kericho border, ethnically motivated clashes have been a recurrent issue, with politicians accused of inciting the violence.
President William Ruto is about to embark on a four-day working trip to the Nyanza region, where he is anticipated to launch several development projects.
The tour will begin on October 6 in Kisumu, where he will, among other initiatives, commission the MV Uhuru 2, before moving on to Siaya, Homa Bay, and Migori.
