EPRA Lists 18 Petrol Stations Selling Adulterated Fuel

The Energy Petroleum and Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has closed 18 petrol stations for either selling adulterated or export-bound fuel in the market.

Through a notice dated Saturday, September 30, the regulatory authority noted that 12 of the stations spread out across the country were found to be selling contaminated fuel.

According to EPRA, the sale of adulterated fuel jeopardizes motorists’ safety by affecting vehicle performance and efficiency.

Contaminated fuel not only hampers engine performance but also frequently leads to vehicle breakdowns due to premature engine failure.

This can result in a vehicle developing problems mid-journey thus increasing the risk of road accidents.

To ensure compliance, EPRA conducted 7,148 tests across the country between July and September 2023.

From the tests, 1,532 of the stations were found to be compliant. However, 18 were found to be non-compliant.

Some of the non-compliant stations were found to be selling super petrol containing high Sulphur content.
