During the same period, the TFR among rural women fell from 7.1 to 3.9 children.

The Kenya Demographic and Health Survey 2022 was conducted among women aged 15 to 49 (in five-year age groups) over three years preceding the survey’s release in 2023.

According to the survey, rural women have a total fertility rate of 3.9, while urban women have a rate of 3.

The total fertility rate is the average number of children a woman would have by the end of her childbearing years if she bore children at today’s age-specific fertility rates.

The total fertility rate has decreased over time.

“Between 1989 and 2022, the TFR decreased by three children, from seven to three,” according to the survey.

Women in rural areas have reduced the number of children they have from seven to four.

“Among urban women, the TFR decreased from 5 to 3 children,” according to the survey.

According to the survey, if fertility remained constant at current levels, a woman in Kenya would have three children on average in her lifetime.
