On Tuesday, the gates of the Nyamira County Assembly were discovered blocked with masonry and feces, just hours before members of the County Assembly (MCAs) were scheduled to file an impeachment motion against Governor Amos Nyaribo.

Monday night, according to a source who spoke to PoliticalPulseChat on the condition of anonymity, untreated sewage was dumped at the entrance.

However, the source was unable to independently corroborate the online claims that supporters of Nyaribo were responsible for the incident.

To prevent the escalation of disorder in the County, police officers were deployed to the assembly in scores to man the gates.

The officers ensured the safety of the MCAs who were slated to debate the motion for impeachment.

In addition, they oversaw the cleanup of the area and the elimination of the barricades at the entrance.

A small group of motorcyclists conducted a peaceful protest against the proposed impeachment of the second-term governor, despite the substantial police presence.

24 out of 34 MCAs from Nyamira County appended their signatures to a motion to impeach the governor on Thursday.

Duke Masira, an MCA from Nyamira Township, is leading the impeachment effort. He has accused the governor of laxity and underperformance.

“We want to know why Nyamira town gets dark like a remote village at night yet there is money for the development of street lights,” he explained as one of the grounds for impeachment.

Masira added that the governor had neglected the region’s health facilities, noting that only paracetamol was available in the majority of public institutions.

The county’s religious leaders have unsuccessfully attempted to mediate between the governor and the MCAs.

If today’s impeachment motion passes, the Senate will either establish a committee of 11 members to investigate the governor’s allegations or try him in plenary.
