Judiciary Responds to Ksh 246M Justice Lenaola Bribery Claims
The Judiciary debunked social media allegations that Supreme Court judge Isaac Lenaola received a bribe of Ksh 246 million at a hotel in Karen.
In a notice dated Saturday, the Judiciary advised Kenyans to disregard the altered posts that resembled the front page of a local daily newspaper.
After the false posts went viral on social media, Kenyans were exhorted to disregard them and stop sharing them.
According to the false posts, Deputy Speaker Gladys Shollei allegedly paid the judge a bribe in dollars (USD 1.7 million) at a hotel in Karen.
It was also alleged that the incident was captured on CCTV with the story airing as an investigative news story.

“A CCTV footage we exclusively obtained from the Karen Blixen Hotel’s car park captures the supreme court judge collecting the money in cash from the Uasin Gishu Women Rep,” claimed the fake newspaper post.
The fake reports claimed that the bribe was related to the Supreme Court’s ruling on the presidential petition for 2022, although the primary reason for the bribery allegations was unclear.
The seven Supreme Court judges uniformly upheld President William Ruto’s 2022 election victory in response to a petition filed by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Notably, Shollei was among the 54 attorneys comprising Ruto’s legal team.
The Uasin Gishu Woman Representative also served as Ruto’s agent during the presidential elections and supervised the verification of results at Bomas.
The authors of the fabricated post remain unknown. The Judiciary did not specify whether those responsible for the false posts would face legal action.
Shollei has not yet stated whether she will pursue legal action against the authors of the fabricated post.
