Mother, son found dead in borehole amidst religious dispute

Police are investigating an incident in which the bodies of a mother and her son were found in a family borehole in Kiambu County.

This follows suspected murder and suicide in the Githunguri village.

According to the locals, Simon Kimani, 40, is reported to have pushed his 75-year-old mother Mercy Mugure into a borehole before killing himself by jumping into the same well.

Kimani and his mother were in disagreement over his involvement in a religious group with controversial beliefs and practices

The controversial beliefs that triggered the feud include practicing Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and allowing marriage to many wives.

A neighbor said the mother opposed his moves and had warned the son against the same which angered him.

A team from the county disaster management department arrived at the scene and recovered the bodies.

The bodies were taken to the local mortuary as Kiambu police boss Perminus Kioi said they are investigating the tragedy.

In another incident, police in Nairobi’s Bahati estate are investigating the sudden death of a 40-year-old man in his house.

The body of the man was found on the floor of his house with blood oozing from his nose.

It is not clear what caused the death of the man who had been left alone in the house on September 18.

His wife came back to the house and found it locked from the inside before she sought the help of locals to break into where the body was found lying.

Police arrived minutes later and moved the body to the mortuary pending autopsy as part of the probe into the death.
