‘He Is An Adult!’ PS Kisiangani Defends Ruto’s Government From Blame For Moses Kuria’s Remarks

Prof. Edward Kisiangani, the Principal Secretary in the State Department of Broadcasting and Telecommunications, has defended the government from accusations of being arrogant.

Speaking on Citizen TV’s Monday Report show, Prof Kisiangani asserted that President William Ruto’s administration should not be condemned and labeled arrogant due to the unpleasant remarks uttered by high-ranking government officials including Cabinet members.

The PS downplayed the impact of the controversial remarks made specifically by Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria who told off Kenyans complaining about the high fuel prices, asking them to go and dig their wells.

According to the PS, CS Kuria is “an adult” and anyone concerned about his remarks should reach out to him for an explanation.

“This is not the most arrogant government. Donโ€™t always talk about negative things. You look at Moses Kuria and when he says something, you say it’s the government. He is a CS and he is an adult. If Moses Kuria makes a statement, call and ask him what he meant. This generalization is not fair,” said Kisiangani.ย

“If you wake up every morning and everything you see about the government is negative, you will always see disharmony. Even in a family, there could be some people talking at a crossroads. In government, some people have positions but when it comes to the general position of administration and serving the people, we talk in one voice,” he added.

Speaking in the same interview, former Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki blamed the “arrogant” statements by some State officials on a lack of empathy for Kenyans who are currently with challenges including a high cost of living.

“I donโ€™t think Kenyans are being over-sensitive. The minute Kenyans voted the current government in office, the promises that were made, Kenyans are looking to see how many of those promises have been fulfilled. What we are lacking is empathy,” she said.

As President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration marks the first year in office, the cabinet has lately been attracting attention for issues ranging from utterances of some of its members to reports of infighting in some ministries.

Utterances by Trade and Industry CS Moses Kuria and Economic Advisor David Ndii have been deemed insensitive, drawing the censure of among others, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
