Over 7,000 Youth Show Up For KDF Recruitment Exercise In Embakasi

Monday, job seekers flocked to the Embakasi Garrison grounds in Nairobi in an attempt to secure one of the 350 positions advertised by the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF).

A video clip shared by the recruiters revealed that the massive throng had overflowed onto the Eastern Bypass, causing traffic congestion.

The campaign targets those who have completed National Youth Service (NYS) training and is scheduled to run until Friday, September 2022.

In an announcement made last week, KDF stated that applicants must have a letter of certification from New York State and a minimum grade of D on the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

“Good evening members, KDF will conduct recruitment at Embakasi Garrison on Monday, September 18 to September 22 to enlist only NYS potentials,” read the message that went viral on social media.

“Requirements are D plain and above, NYS discharge letter with credit of character very good. Please pass that information to the relevant candidates.”

The recruitment follows a recent KDF effort to hire specialist officers and tradespeople, which concluded on Friday, September 8. A week later, on Saturday, the list of finalists was published.

There are a total of 1,606 candidates vying to join the force, with 347 qualified for the position of specialist officers and 1,259 for the position of tradesmen and women.

After the recruitment of New York State candidates concludes, the force will conduct interviews with the finalists commencing the following Monday.

Traders were instructed to report to Embakasi Garrison in Nairobi on Monday, September 25, 2023, at 8:00 a.m. for interviews.

In contrast, specialist officers will conduct interviews at the KMA in Lanet, Nakuru County, commencing at 8:00 a.m.

The large number of individuals who applied for the position has exposed the country’s severe unemployment situation, which is estimated to exceed five percent.

Experts predict that the situation will worsen in the coming year as companies lay off workers to reduce payrolls that have become unmanageable due to the ever-increasing tax burden.
