Govt Introduces 2 Exams for Kenyan Nurses Traveling to Saudi Arabia
Through the National Employment Authority (NEA), the government has mandated two examinations for Kenyan nurses seeking employment in Saudi Arabia.
Sunday, during a preparatory meeting between Kenyan delegates and representatives from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), NEA announced the new requirements.
The meeting was necessary due to Saudi Arabia’s desire to recruit additional healthcare professionals from Kenya, with a preference for nurses.
“Kenyan Nurses will undergo a comprehensive written exam, setting the stage for their journey towards exciting opportunities in KSA,” the Employment Authority announced.
All prospective nurses who wish to work in a Gulf country must pass the interview.
Those who pass the comprehensive written examination will be evaluated on their oral communication skills.

“Kenyan Nurses will then be guided through an oral interview ensuring that the best talent finds its way to the Kingdom’s healthcare sector,” NEA stated.
According to NEA, the oral examination will be administered by a Saudi interviewing panel.
Acting NEA Director-General Edith Okoki presided over the meeting to discuss engagement modalities.
According to the Ministry of Labour, under the arrangement, Kenyans working as nurses in Saudi Arabia earn Ksh 180,500 per month.
Other benefits for Kenyan healthcare professionals working in Saudi Arabia include round-trip airfare, 35 paid vacation days, lodging, meals, insurance, and transportation.
Kenya also has a bilateral health partnership agreement with the United Kingdom.
Kenya and the United Kingdom signed an agreement in 2021 whereby 20,000 Kenyan nurses will be sent to work in UK hospitals.
