    Official School Closure Date Set: Government

    The Ministry of Education has published the third term academic calendar in preparation for the National Examinations of 2023.

    In a statement published on Friday, September 15, Dr. Bellio Kipsang, principal secretary for basic education, announced that classes will begin on October 30.

    The Principal Secretary advised parents to plan accordingly and collaborate with instructors to ensure a smooth examination period for their children.

    “All schools opened for the Third Term of the 2023 academic calendar on August 28th, 2023, which is scheduled to run until October 27th, 2023 to pave the way for the national examinations season.

    “In the meantime, field officials and institutional administrators are reminded that all school activities involving parents and other stakeholders are not allowed during the Third Term to allow for adequate preparations ahead of the National Examinations that are set to start on 30th October 2023,” the statement read in parts.

    Kipsang remarked that the government had also taken steps to prevent learning interruptions during the third term.

    In addition, he disclosed that the government will release all necessary capitation funds to schools to ensure the calendar’s seamless operation.

    “To ensure normal running of all school activities, the Ministry of Education has received Ksh16,249,982,722.28 Billion as capitation funds from The National Treasury for disbursement to learners in public Primary, Junior and Secondary schools.” the statement read in parts.

    Junior Secondary Schools will receive Ksh1.75 billion in capitation funds while Free Primary Education will receive Ksh1.56 billion, according to PS Kipsang.

    Free Day Secondary Education will also receive Ksh12.9 billion in capitation funding.

    “The Ministry wishes to assure all schools that the funds will be wired to respective school accounts by September 20th, 2023 to facilitate the smooth delivery of targeted learning activities.

    “A detailed breakdown of the funds and guidelines on their prudent utilization have been dispatched to schools in line with Government regulations,” the statement read in parts.

    The Ministry of Education spent a total of Ksh89.4 billion on capitation for Primary, Junior, and Secondary School education during the 2022/2023 fiscal year.
