Kenya will host the Producer and Roaster Forum (PRF) in November 2024, becoming the first African nation to organize one of the world’s largest coffee events.

The agreement was reached following a meeting between Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and PRF Chief Executive Officer Henry Wilson, followed by a presentation at the Seventh Coffee Producer and Roaster Forum in Medellin, Colombia, on why Kenya is exceptional in coffee production.

The event provides countries with opportunities to exhibit their coffee production and the host nation with investment opportunities.

The previous event was conducted in Honduras, America, and its economic impact was approximately Ksh1.4 billion.

Gachagua stated that the meeting with CEO Wilson allowed him to highlight the potential of the coffee industry in the country as well as the reforms implemented by Kenya to streamline the subsector.

“Kenya is ready to host this apex event to the continent, which will also highlight the investment opportunities in the country in specialty coffee, especially value addition,” he said.

“We commit to making this event a success for the Kenyan farmer and the consumer of the Kenyan coffee.”

The Deputy President was accompanied by, among others, Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi, Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok, Senate Agricultural Committee Chairman Senator Kamau Murango, and Chairman of the Parliamentary Coffee Caucus MP Duncan Mathenge.

DP Gachagua has been in Colombia for five days to meet with the region’s prominent coffee producers and sellers.

Colombia is a global leader in the coffee industry, generating 12% of the world’s coffee and ranking as the world’s third-largest coffee producer.

In addition to exporting to high-value markets such as the United States, Germany, and Belgium, the Latin American nation also exports to high-value markets such as Brazil, Chile, and Peru.

Following the conclusion of the visit, Gachagua will head the Kenyan delegation to Cuba for the G77 summit, where he will deliver a speech on behalf of President William Ruto.
