Shock As 18-Year-Old Daystar University Student Mysteriously Dies 4 Days After Admission
Bowen Kanda and his family are still in utter shock over the demise of their daughter, Mercy Cherono, who died only four days after her admission at Daystar University to pursue a course in Nursing.
On a fateful day, Kanda says his daughter had called her mother and said she would be home that evening because there was a party for first years happening at the school that she did not want to attend.
Moments later, the 18-year-old Cherono called her mother and said she had decided to stay and join the party because she couldn’t find transport home.
At 2 a.m., Kanda said he received a phone call every parent dreads; the school wanted the parents to rush to the institution immediately, and later directed them to head to Shalom Hospital in Kitengela, where their worst fears were confirmed – their beloved daughter was no more.
“I only admitted her at Daystar University on 4th September, and hardly four days passed before she was found dead,” narrated Kanda.
“That hostel that she was found in is not the hostel that I paid for. I had paid for a different hostel and she died in a different one, and this hostel does not even have CCTV cameras which could have tracked the movement of my child.”
Daystar University on Thursday held a requiem mass for the departed student at the institution’s Nairobi campus but declined to comment on her mysterious death.
The family is now questioning the circumstances surrounding their daughter’s death, barely a week after admission.
A post-mortem examination conducted on the late Cherono was inconclusive, leaving the family with more questions than answers.

“The post-mortem report is not conclusive, samples were taken and they are yet to be released from the government chemist. The preliminary report only states that the child died of excessive bleeding due to a deep cut from a knife stabbing,” added Kanda.
The 18-year-old Nursing student whose life was nipped in the bud will be laid to rest at her parents’ home in Kapsait, Elgeyo Marakwet, on Saturday, September 15, even as leaders from the North Rift county call for speedy investigations to uncover the circumstances under which she died.

It is now emerging that a serial killer is roaming freely at Daystar University’s main campus in Athi River.
According to blogger Simon Mwangi Muthiora, more than six students have died under mysterious circumstances in the last couple of months.
They are believed to have been eliminated by the serial killer.
The ruthless serial killer reportedly eliminates victims and then makes it appear like a suicide.
“All of them committed suicide and somehow left a similar suicide note. The University has been covering up to save the image,’’ Mwangi wrote.
This new development comes amid a probe into the death of Mercy Cherono, who died only four days after her admission at Daystar University to pursue a course in Nursing.
