Brace Yourselves, Fuel Prices Will Rise By Ksh.10 Every Month Until February – Moses Kuria Warns

Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has warned Kenyans to prepare for monthly petroleum price increases in the future.

Until February 2024, petroleum prices will increase by Ksh10 per month, per the CS.

The Cabinet Secretary disclosed that rising global crude oil prices are responsible for the increase in petroleum prices.

This implies that the fuel price per liter will be approximately Ksh 250 by February.

“Global Crude Prices are on an upward trajectory. For planning purposes expect pump prices to go up by Ksh10 every month till February,” Kuria said in a statement.

Kuria’s statement comes just a few hours after the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced that fuel prices will increase by up to Ksh33 per liter beginning September 15.

At a time when the country is struggling with a high cost of living, the sudden increase has startled and stunned Kenyans.

President William Ruto’s campaign pledges to reduce the cost of living have been brought into question by Kenyans in response to the price increase.

In response, David Ndii, chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors, attributed the increase in petroleum prices to the previous administration’s voracious appetite for debt.

Interestingly, Kuria’s sentiments come one day after the CS was widely criticized for incorrectly stating that the price of edible oils on supermarket shelves has come down.

However, he was proven wrong when a reporter from the media outlet visited a supermarket and verified that oil prices had not decreased.

If the information provided by CS is any indication, Kenyans face a difficult future, as the prices of commodities, about which the majority of them complain, are expected to rise even further.
