Fire Breaks Out at Safari Hotel in Turkana County

A huge fire has broken out at a tourist resort in Lokichar, Kenya Red Cross has confirmed.

Kenya Red Cross has said that the fire whose source has not yet been established has gutted part of the Safari Hotel in Turkana County.

In a video, Kenya Red Cross reported that energy services have been alerted to help put out the fire.

The fire reportedly started at around 3:40 p.m.

“Turkana County fire brigade and dispatch have been notified,” Kenya Red Cross shared on X, formerly Twitter.

Some people stood on the roof and poured water on the burning building from a distance while others went for more even before fire engines could arrive.

Other business persons were seen evacuating and removing their valuables for fear of gutting down their buildings.

Kenya Red Cross also noted that the Cross Action Teams (RCATs) are also present at the scene to help coordinate the rescue mission.

RCATs is made up of a group of dedicated volunteers who are trained to respond to emergencies and disasters such as the Safari Hotel fire.

At the scene, RCATs have been deployed to assist in a variety of areas, including search and rescue and First aid.

The team will also be at hand to provide psychosocial support to the victims of fire. However, there are no reports of death in the incident.

“We will keep you updated as the event unfolds,” Kenya Red Cross assured concerned people.
