Nairobi’s Key Roads Close 2 Days for African Climate Summit(List)
Four major roads in Nairobi will be closed for two days due to the impending African Climate Summit, which will be hosted by President William Ruto at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) beginning on September 4.
The affected roads are Harambee Avenue from Parliament Roundabout to Taifa Road Junction and Taifa Road from Harambee Avenue Junction to City Hall Way Junction, according to event security plans seen by PoliticalPulseChat.
City Hallway Junction will be closed between Holy Family Basilica Roundabout and Taifa Road Junction, and Parliament Road will be closed between Harambee Avenue Roundabout and City Hallway Roundabout.
The highways will be closed from 2:00 a.m. on September 4 until 6:00 p.m. on September 6.
In a similar vein, considerable traffic congestion is anticipated on several major roads as a result of the prioritization of accommodations for the over 30,000 international delegates.
To accommodate VIPs, delegates, and participants, the government has designated 58 hotels. The majority of hotels are located along main thoroughfares like Mombasa Road, Waiyaki Way, and Limuru Road.
In addition, hotels along Thika Road and Ngong Road will house the two-day visitors staying in the area.
“Appropriate traffic arrangements have been made to ensure that delegates and visiting dignitaries can travel freely.
“Parking spaces at Sunken, Supreme Court, Holy Family Basilica, and Charter Hall will be off-limits to the general public,” reads a portion of the security plan.
Administration of Matatus
Dickson Mbugua, chairman of the Matatu Welfare Association, affirmed to PoliticalPulseChat that Public Service Vehicles (PSV) will continue to operate despite the anticipated disruption.
The chairperson elaborated that committee members will collaborate with the police to ensure that residents of Nairobi are not inconvenienced by the anticipated disturbances. He acknowledged that the association is aware that dignitaries will receive priority treatment.
Nonetheless, he stated that matatu owners would be able to manage the challenge and that the police would instruct locals on how to maneuver on the specified dates.
This country has hosted a conference of this nature. PSVs will continue to conduct their operations. The police are taking precautions to ensure that the movement of delegates is not impeded.
The delegates can also use the Nairobi Expressway to reach the venue from the airport. We typically work with the authorities, and we anticipate the same this time,” he said.
Peter Murima, chairman of the Motorists Association of Kenya, urged motorists to adhere to the police’s recommendations to avoid traffic congestion during the summit dates.
“We can accommodate the traffic because visitors bring with them valuable items. We implore motorists to bear with the inconveniences that will result from the closures. Webelieve that the authorities will be able to manage the traffic,” he said.
