Oparanya Rejects Ruto’s Invitation

Wycliffe Oparanya, the deputy leader of the ODM, has stated that he will not yield to Kenya Kwanza’s pressure to join their coalition.

The former governor of Kakamega was arrested along with his spouses on Wednesday for allegedly embezzling Sh1.3 billion during his tenure.

Saturday in Vihiga, he stated that the ruling party ought to be satisfied with Prime Minister CS Musalia and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula.
Oparanya stated, “You cannot compel me to join your coalition.”

“Mudavadi and Wetangula are yours. Why are you fighting so hard to have me in your camp? I belong to ODM and will continue to do so.”

He was speaking at Byrum Makokha’s memorial service at Ibubi Girls’ Secondary School in the Luanda subcounty.

Oparanya stated that he will remain steadfast and loyal to his party, ODM, which is presently a member of the coalition Azimio la Umoja.

“Whether you imprison me for the next hundred years or not, no amount of threats will bring me down,” he assured the government of Kenya Kwanza.
Oparanya stated that he was a member of parliament for ten years, a minister for five years, and a governor for ten years.

“You can’t tell me that I’ve been a thief for all these years that I’ve been in politics until now when I’ve resigned. That is not possible, he stated.

Eric Ngumbi, director of communications for the EACC, verified to The Star that the former governor and his wife were brought to the EACC Integrity Centre around noon on Wednesday.

The detectives visited his Butere residence in Mumias on Tuesday and his Karen residence on Wednesday morning.

In addition, sources told the Star that the commission was investigating the county’s expenditures of approximately Sh1.3 billion between 2013 and 2022, while Oparanya was in office.

“Investigations are currently in the preliminary stages,” said the source.
“We examined his properties. The interrogation is ongoing, and we cannot predict when it will conclude.”

The Vihiga According to Senator Godfrey Osotsi, President William Ruto is currently utilizing state apparatus to suppress the opposition.

Osotsi stated, “President, he promised during the campaign not to use state machinery to thwart the Opposition, but he has broken his word.”
