Turning Dinner Dates: Musalia & Wetangula’s Shift to Ruto

The phrase “The Earthquake,” which Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi invented when he dumped Raila Odinga, the former Prime Minister, to join President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza coalition, appears to have been conceived over a dinner date. Mudavadi dumped Odinga to join Ruto’s alliance.

This information was divulged by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetangula, on August 27th, while Ruto was touring Western Kenya. The event took place in Bungoma County.

Wetangula disclosed that alongside Mudavadi, he met Ruto’s handler and personal assistant, Farouk Kibet, on four dinner dates before they were convinced to cross over with their parties, Ford-Kenya and ANC, respectively.

The two individuals, who had been associated with Raila’s now-defunct National Super Alliance (NASA), initially became members of the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) as they deliberated on what course of action to take next.

However, they changed their affiliation from OKA to Kenya Kwanza as a result of other OKA co-principals joining Azimio, including Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Martha Karua (Narc-Kenya), and Gideon Moi (KANU).

Wetangula disclosed this information while speaking during a church service in Bungoma County. He stated that it was not an easy decision for them to choose to work with Ruto, particularly because he had voted for Raila in both the 2013 and 2017 General Elections. On the other hand, Mudavadi lent his support to Raila in 2017, even though both men had run for president in 2013.

Farouk Kibet, Wetangula, and Musalia would have remained faithful to Raila Odinga if it weren’t for the personal aide that Ruto has worked for him.

“This is my brother, Mudavadi,” the speaker says. Wetangula said to the Head of State, “Musalia and I ate Farouk Kibet’s dinner four times before we met you,” a statement that was welcomed with applause from those in attendance.

We were getting together to plan and talk about the benefits and drawbacks of the situation. 2013 and 2017 were both difficult years for us, and we were curious about what the future held for us.

Following Kenya Kwanza’s victory in the general election of 2023, Wetangula disclosed that the decision to join forces with Ruto had been validated.

We are the ones who will have the last laugh. He mocked his adversaries in the political arena by saying, “He who laughs last laughs best and longest.” In particular, he blamed their defeat in the presidential elections of 2013 and 2017 on Raila Odinga, claiming that he was responsible for their defeat.

After taking the podium, Musalia Mudavadi echoed Wetangula’s comments and bemoaned the difficulties posed by the opposition.

“In 2017, we were a part of the National Super Alliance (NASA), but when the Supreme Court ordered a rerun of the election, our candidate, Raila Odinga, refused to participate, and as a result, we came in last place,” he said.

He reiterated his dedication to collaborating with Wetangula to realize the goals of the Kenya Kwanza and President William Ruto.

“There is no question about who is superior between Wetanguala and Mudavadi. Wetangula was successfully nominated and elected to serve as Speaker, and the President has selected me to serve as Prime Cabinet Secretary. “He explained that each of us is responsible for our own things.
