13 New University Vice Chancellors Appointed by Education CS
Ezekiel Machogu, the country’s Education Cabinet Secretary, has appointed new Vice Chancellors for thirteen universities.
Prof. Benedict Mwavu Mutua has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Technical University of Kenya (TUK), while Prof. Nathan Oyori Ogechi assumes leadership of Kisii University.
Prof. James H. P. Kahindi was appointed as the new university president of Pwani University.
Prof. Barasa Lwagula will assume the role of university president at Alupe University as part of the new administration’s reorganization. Prof. Joyce Jepkirui Agalo was named as the new VC of Machakos University, which was also affected by the changes.
Prof. Emily Achieng Akuno will be the new university president at Jaramogi University of Science and Technology, as Prof. Linus Muthuri Gitonga takes over at Karatina University.
Following his appointment, Tom Mboya University, which was established in September 2010, will be led by Prof. Charles Omondi.
Prof. Douglas Shitanda (South Eastern Kenya University), Prof. Thomas Kimeli Cheruiyot (University of Eldoret), Prof. Linus Muthuri Gitonga (Karatina University), Prof. Peter K. Muriungi (Tharaka University), and Prof. Peter Nganga Muchiri (Dedan Kimathi University of Technology) were also newly appointed professors.
In their new roles as university administrators, the thirteen will be responsible for administering the day-to-day operations of their respective institutions while simultaneously reporting to the University Council.

The announcement was made by Machogu’s ministry months after the Public Service Commission (PSC) advertised vacancies in the various institutions, as the terms of the previous university presidents expired.
