Inside Ruto Team’s NYC Meeting: Haiti Mission Prep

On Sunday, a Kenyan delegation will embark on a fact-finding mission in Haiti. New information has emerged regarding the Kenyan delegation’s journey to New York City in the United States before it departed for Haiti on Sunday.

Tuesday, international media outlets reported that the delegation, led by Deputy Inspector General Noor Gabow, arrived in New York to consult with and engage other nations interested in joining the mission.

The purpose of the summit was to determine the most effective means of addressing the crisis in the Caribbean nation, where gangs have taken control of more than 80 percent.

According to the Associated Press, Haiti’s demands were debated with an emphasis on resolving the situation that is paralyzing the country’s operations and endangering the lives of its citizens.

It was unclear when the team arrived in New York or how long they would stay.

The team headed by Gabow then departed for Haiti on Sunday to meet with the country’s top law enforcement officials.

Monday’s meeting centered on the requirements of the devastated Haitian Department of Law Enforcement.

“We are here to assess the needs of the National Police of Haiti, to better understand the situation, and to do our best to help the Haitian people,” read a joint statement from the Haiti Force and the 10-member Kenyan delegation.

The Kenyan fact-finding mission in Haiti is scheduled to conclude on August 23.

    Demanding Task

If approved, Kenya is prepared to send more than one thousand officers to Haiti to command the international mission. Nonetheless, it has the support of the United Nations (UN) and other global security leaders.

The team will then collaborate with Haiti’s 10,000 officers to restore order in the 11 million-person nation.

However, the criminals threatened retaliation if the deployed officers violated human rights during their mission.

“We will fight until our last breath against them. Jimmy Barbecue” Cherizier, commander of the G9 Family and Allies gang alliance, stated, according to Al Jazeera, that “the Haitian people will have to fight to save the dignity of our country.”

Up until now, the gang has held the capital city of Port-au-Prince captive and expanded its outskirt towns, including the wealthy’s influential suburbs. Since January 2023, an estimated 2,400 people have been slain and 200,000 have been displaced.
