7-Year-Old Boy Defies the Odds: Survives 5 Days Among Lions in Zimbabwe’s Wildlife Park
A remarkable story of survival has emerged from Zimbabwe, where a seven-year-old boy, Tinotenda Pudu, was rescued after spending five days alone in a wildlife park teeming with lions and elephants.
Tinotenda, who hails from northern Zimbabwe, wandered an astonishing 49 kilometers (30 miles) from his home into the vast Matusadona National Park. This area is known for its dangerous wildlife, including predators like lions and other large animals such as elephants and hippos.
The young boyโs survival depended on his quick thinking and knowledge of the environment. According to the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks), Tinotenda managed to sustain himself by eating wild fruits and digging shallow wells in the dry riverbeds to find water. These techniques are essential survival skills in regions frequently affected by drought.

Concerned for his safety, local community members began a search, using drum sounds in the hope of guiding Tinotenda back. However, it was park rangers who eventually located him. The breakthrough came when they noticed small footprints near their patrol route. Tinotenda was later spotted running toward a rangerโs vehicle, narrowly escaping what could have been a tragic outcome.
Mutsa Murombedzi, an MP who shared the story online, expressed relief that the boy had been found just in time. โThis was likely his last chance,โ she stated.
Matusadona National Park spans over 1,470 square kilometers (570 square miles) and is one of Africaโs most dangerous landscapes due to its large population of lions and other wildlife. Surviving in such conditions is a rare feat, particularly for a child.
Tinotendaโs bravery has drawn admiration from people worldwide, with social media users hailing his resilience as miraculous. His incredible story is a testament to the power of courage and the human will to survive.
