7 Reasons Why Petitioners Want Nyamira County Govt Suspended
Four residents from Nyamira County have petitioned the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to halt the operations of the Nyamira County Government.
In a formal request to the IEBC, the petitioners urged the commission to authorize them to gather signatures from the public in support of suspending Nyamira County’s activities.
They accused Governor Amos Nyaribo’s administration of corruption and the mismanagement of county finances.
The petitioners also requested that the IEBC approve the suspension of Nyaribo’s administration for consistently delaying county employees’ salaries, which they argued has negatively impacted worker morale.
According to the petitioners, Nyamira County’s human resource management is in disarray due to the absence of a coherent human resource policy.
The petition further alleged that Governor Nyaribo awarded himself a substantial salary of Ksh6 million, exceeding his designated salary cap.

The petitioners claimed that this misuse of funds diverts resources away from development projects that could benefit the residents.
Additionally, the petitioners called on the IEBC to permit the suspension due to the county government’s failure to supply essential equipment, medications, and other necessities to hospitals.
They noted that for the past three months, traders in Nyamira County have refused to pay taxes, citing the government’s inability to provide crucial services.
Governor Nyaribo was also accused of allocating 70% of the county’s revenue to salaries, leaving inadequate funds for development.
Finally, the petitioners accused the governor of neglecting to involve the public in significant county projects before initiating them.
The letter to the IEBC concluded that these issues, along with others, constitute “exceptional circumstances” that warrant the suspension of the county government.
