3 Kenyan Women Arrested After Thailand Airport X-Ray Reveals Drugs in Their Stomachs

On Tuesday, August 5, three Kenyan women were apprehended in Thailand for attempting to smuggle 2,857 grams of cocaine into the country by ingesting the drugs in tiny satchels and then swallowing them.

According to a report by Phuket News, which was the first to break the story, three women aged 26, 26, and 34 were apprehended by Sakhu Police at Phuket International Airport on September 3, while carrying approximately 472 grams of cocaine.

Following a tip from the Office of The Narcotics Control Board (ONCB), the suspects were arrested on suspicion of narcotic smuggling.

Officers arrested the women on Tuesday after they had waited three days for the women to excrete the narcotics.

“Officers from Saku Police joined officers from the ONCB and the Airport Interdiction Taskforce (AITF) in apprehending the women but found no drugs on them or the luggage,” read the report.

After X-rays at Thalang Hospital confirmed the presence of drug-filled satchels within the women’s bodies, they were returned to Phuket Airport Customs and detained until all of the satchels were expelled.

The X-ray revealed that the satchels contained cocaine.
Despite being detained and interrogated, the women refused to assist the authorities.

By the Narcotics Control Act, all three women were charged with smuggling Category 2 narcotics into the country and unlawful possession of a Category 2 narcotic.

They are presently being held at the Thai police station in Saku pending further questioning.

At the time of publication, Kenyan authorities had not yet responded to the issue.
