Investigators are looking into a growing mystery that involves a religious cult whose pastor, Makenzie Nthenge, allegedly instructed members of the cult to starve themselves to “meet Jesus.”
According to reports from the local media, Nthenge, the leader of the Good News International Church, turned himself to authorities. He was charged with a crime a month ago. This after two children died of starvation while they were in the care of their parents.
He was at first allowed to go free after posting a bail of 100,000 shillings.
However, on April 15 the police arrested Nthenge. This is after discovering the bodies of four followers whom he allegedly told to starve themselves to “meet Jesus.”
Following their rescue on April 14, eleven additional members of the church, including seven men and four women ranging in age from 17 to 49, were transported to a hospital, with three of them being in critical condition.
