11 Die After Accident Involving Super Metro Bus & Lorry on Kisumu- Nairobi Highway
There are concerns that eleven individuals may have lost their lives following a collision between a Super Metro bus from Kampala and a truck on the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway in Ahero.
Two females, eight males, and an adolescent boy are among the deceased. Nyanza Regional Traffic Enforcement Officer Allan Mwangi has verified that 53 passengers sustained injuries in connection with the incident.
Moreover, reports indicate that the tragic accident may have claimed the lives of two drivers and a conductor associated with the bus Sacco.
Information regarding the event suggests that the bus collided with a truck transporting sugar on the Ahero-Awasi road at a location called Othoo while attempting to pass it.
Additionally, it is stated that the incident took place in the early hours of Monday, January 29, at approximately 2:30 am.
The emergency responders from the Kenya Red Cross stated that numerous injured individuals were transported to Ahero Sub-county Hospital, with critical cases being transferred to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Furthermore, the Kenya Red Cross has stated that they are actively engaged in delivering psychological assistance and overseeing a tracing desk for those affected by the incident.
The incident has been affirmed by Grace Thuo, who serves as the sub-county commander in Nyando.
Furthermore, as they verified the situation, Super Metro Sacco expressed their sympathies to the relatives of the individuals affected.
“As Super Metro family would like to inform the public that it’s so unfortunate that one of our buses plying the Kampala-Nairobi route was involved in an accident before Awasi along Kisumu- Nairobi Highway”.
“We would wish to convey a message of condolence to the families that lost their beloved ones and quick recovery to those who are in the hospital”, Super metro added.
The incident occurred shortly after the bus received authorization for long-distance travel, enabling the Sacco to operate beyond Nairobi.
